Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine Scottish Regimental Feather Bonnet, as worn by Pipers, bandsmen and Buglers. These are reminiscent of the bearskins that used to be worn, but which are no longer used in service. Due to the increasing scarcity of bears, as well as the required hunting, the feather bonnets were a much more economical choice.
The bonnet rather small due to age, but it is marked in ink on the liner with a size 7 3/8. It retains its original leather headband and red silk crown lining to the interior. The shell is leather and totally covered in Black Feathers. The exterior headband is of Red, white and Navy blue checkering. It comes with its original leather chin strap, which hooks inside the helmet for suspension.
In very nice condition, and it might even date back to WWI, but there are no markings to support that. Absolutely original, very decorative and ready to Display!
