This gorgeous small enameled copper HEART-SHAPED box with what was gilt brass frame was intended for cheek patches that were then very much en vogue, or other such like accessories. The hinged cover showing enamel Man-o-War that appears to have a U.S. flag displayed, interestingly perhaps being flown incorrectly upside down. The enamel worker’s error perhaps.
Perhaps dating to the Revolutionary War or more likely the War of 1812. Truly a lovely object, ready to research and display!
