Original Item: Only One Available. These are not uncommon and usually regarded as Trade Pistols, however these are precisely what were supplied to the HUDSON BAY COMPANY that traded furs etc in the North and Canada. This particular example is rather nice that it has an openwork brass side plate, all brass mounts including a skull crushing Butt Cap. The flintlock plate is marked KETLAND / & CO. and the brass barrel is marked LONDON on the top, along with several proof marks. The lock does NOT have a pan re-enforcement arm on the outside of the frizzen, which is a feature of British Flintlock Pistol prior to 1760, however for a cost saving measure these cheaper unbridged locks were re-adopted for the Fur Trade.
Of course many of these ended up being traded to the American Indians but this pistol shows no evidence of that. There are a couple of areas of slight old wood loss just above the lock and around the the central barrel securing pin on the fore stock but these “scars” are very old and add much character to the pistol.
Fully working order and in a great cleaned condition, truly a flintlock pistol of the early United States and Colonial Canada. Ready to display.
