Original Item: Only One Available. This is a magnificent Officer’s “Private Purchase” telescope, which was at the time a top of the line Military Telescope. This Five Draw telescope measures 42″ when fully drawn and 44″ in length with the front sun shade fully extended, yet is compressed to only 11 5/8″ when closed. A truly magnificent specimen, and probably the longest that we have had.
It is Made and marked by DOLLOND of LONDON, a Company started by the very famous OPTICIAN John Dollond, who lived from 1706 to 1761. His firm then continued in business for more than two hundred years.
The rear barrel is marked with ranging scales of 300 yards to 600 yards (30/40/50/60). Of all brass construction this huge long telescope from the time of Queen Victoria still provides an excellent image but the lenses could could benefit with a professional cleaning.
