Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very impressive brass-hilted Artillery Side Arm measuring 27 inches overall, with a heavy, almost cutlass like 22 inch “SAW BACK” blade. The maker marking is partly missing, but CRAVEN is clearly legible, for “Cooper & Craven” a well known Napoleonic Sword Maker of the Napoleonic Wars and afterwards. The blade also bears a military Inspector’s acceptance stamp of a Crown over an “I”.
The brass hilt has a ribbed grip of all brass with a “stirrup” shaped guard, the pommel taking the form of a Lion’s head in an unusual style.
These Georgian saw back short swords are uncommon and this is a fine example with many most unusual features. Ready to display.
