Original Item: Only one available. Today these have become very hard to find. Originally manufactured sometime before 1896 in .450/577 caliber as an artillery carbine this example was converted to .303 caliber in 1896 and shipped to Egypt for colonial service in 1906.
Receiver plate is nicely marked:
ENFIELD
1896
M.E. 303
I
On the opposite side off the receiver there are the markings:
Khartoum 1909
The carbine has fine mottled finish overall and comes complete with sling swivels and brass marking disc to the butt stock bearing a marking in Arabic making this a very nice hard to find military Martini carbine with masses of British and colonial history.
It retains the original 20″ carbine barrel and is fitted with it’s M-1888 .303 caliber knife bayonet, bearing Wilkinson Sword Company maker’s and V.R. and acceptance markings and dated 00 for 1900.
It also still has a, probably final, military issued leather sling complete with maker’s stamps and dated 1919.
The weapon bears it’s original British Proof and acceptance marks but in addition has an E.P. stamped into the wood butt stock indicating that at one time it was issued to the Egyptian Police.
The barrel rear shows the Egyptian Police acceptance mark and the serial number has been added in Arabic script.
A very interesting British made and issued Martini Carbine that saw service in the Empire and throughout WWI offered in great condition.
