The Leather covered barrels are of all brass construction with a central adjustment winding knob. They measure 5 3/4″ when closed opening to 8″ when fully extended.The right hand barrel tube is engraved:-

GROUPE DE CHASSE 1917
Captain-Commandant FERNAND MAXIMILLIAN LEON JACQUET was considered Belgium’s top flying ace of WW1, credited with SEVEN Arial Victories. He started in 1914 in the ESCADRILLE DEMANET but by 1917 was the Commander of the entire GROUPE DE CHASSE: the entire fighting Air Wing of the Belgian Army. Lauded with awards he flew the King of the Belgians
all over the Western Front.
In WW2 he again offered his services but Belgium was immediately overrun so he became part of the RESISTANCE MOVEMENT. Arrested by the NSDAPs in 1942 he was imprisoned in HUY FORTRESS until 1945 being released by the advancing Allies. He died in 1947 at the age of 59.
