Original Item: Only One Available. We just received this lovely example along with about 200 other guns, from a collection that sat in an attic for close to 100 years. This is a Double Barrel Percussion shotgun in a small .50″ bore, perhaps 32 or 36 bore. It is fitted with unsigned back action locks that bear minimal engraving on the plate and hammers. The left side of the barrels is marked with the “Tower of Liège” proof mark, indicating manufacture and inspection in Liège, Belgium.
The wood butt stock is quite extensively carved, with what looks to be a Boar’s Head on the bottom of the butt stock. This is a very common decoration for sporting guns, so this may have been intended for delivering the end to a hunt for Wild Boar. The mounts appear to be German Silver, a common cupro-nickel alloy. There is also a nice patch-box on the upper left butt stock.
Dating from the 1840’s or 1850’s this has seen plenty of use but nevertheless would be ideal to display!
