Original Item: Only One Available. We just received this lovely example along with about 200 other guns, from a collection that sat in an attic for close to 100 years. This is an Antique double barrel hammer Shotgun, with 30″ barrels dated 1892. The pistol grip stock is checkered and the locks have minimal engraving. They are also marked ECLIPSE GUN CO, very possibly an American Trade name for marketing this gun, manufactured by BAYARD / PEIPER of Liège, Belgium. The tops of the chambers have further markings:
ECLIPSE BEAUTY
No 7212 D
DAMASCUS FINISH
BELGIUM
There is also a patent marking of PATENT 488366 DECB. 20 1892.
The gun is in nice shape, and bores are clear, with some oxidation peppering. The standard top lever pushed to the side, opening the chambers for reloading. Removing the forestock allows the barrels to be removed from the receiver. This reveals the markings of both the “Tower of Liège” proof mark as well as E / L G / * in a “Crowned” oval, indicating manufacture and inspection in Liège, Belgium. The serial number 119683 is marked on all three parts of the shotgun. There are additional proofs and other markings giving further specifications on the barrels, such as gauge, choke, etc. Really a well marked gun in great display condition.
There are some old tags attached to the trigger guard, placed there by the original collector, stating that this weapon was discovered in the wall of a bathroom that was being remodeled on Long Island, New York. It bears speculation that the shotgun was hidden during the period of Prohibition in the 1920’s perhaps indicating to a possible criminal past?
Already almost 130 years old and still in good condition, ready to display!
