Original Bavarian M-1869 Werder Bayonet by Alexander Coppel Modified to fit M1871 Mauser Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a “Classic” bayonet from Germany’s past, when it was still various Kingdoms, Grand Duchies, etc. This model of bayonet was introduced in 1869 by the Kingdom of Bavaria, just BEFORE the Unification of Germany as we now know it under BISMARK in 1870/71. The Werder did not remain in service for long, so the very nice bayonets for it were then modified to fit other rifles. In this case part of the grip was machined away in order to fit the Model 1871 and 1871/84 Mauser Rifles, as well as the M1888 “Commission” rifle.

The blade ricasso bears the A (Scales) C trademark logo of Alexander Coppel & Co., located in the legendary “City of Blades”, Solingen. This company manufactured bayonets for many years and up through WWII under the name Alcoso. Sadly, as the Coppel family was Jewish, they saw their company stolen from them and “Aryanized” during WWII by the NSDAP. Condition is excellent, with a lovely lightly aged patina. The crossguard is marked with serial number 50324 on one side, and on the other is German regimental designation 18. R. E. 1045.. This is most likely for the 18th (1st Posen) Infantry “von Grolman” Regiment, Ersatz (replacement) battalion, weapon 1045.
