Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice Austrian-made NCO bayonet for the Mannlicher Model 1895 straight pull bolt action Rifle, which was the principal Rifle of the FIRST WORLD WAR for the Austrian Empire. The M1895 bayonet was the first knife bayonet to feature an inverted blade profile, where cutting edge faces upward when fixed. This particular example is interesting in that it has a front sight fitted on top of the bayonet crossguard. This is a very rare version used with the Mannlicher M1895 Cavalry Carbine.
The bayonet and scabbard are both stamped with F.G. over GY., standing for Fémáru, Fegyver- és Gépgyár (“Metalware, Arms and Machine Factory”) of Budapest, Hungary. The reverse ricasso of the bayonet has the Austro-Hungarian Empire’s Eagle proof mark stamped twice. The scabbard also comes with a very nice brown pebble-grain leather frog attached to it.
Condition of the bayonet is very good, with the original bright finish still well retained. There is the expected wear to the finish, and a bit of light oxidation, but it presents very well. The scabbard, originally painted green, now has lost a good deal of the finish, showing an oxidized patina. The frog also shows wear, but is still in good shape, though the stitching for the belt loop has almost completely rotted out.
A rare bayonet and scabbard from the Austro-Hungarian empire, ready to display or use!
