Original Arabian Migulet Lock Jezail Musket Circa 1800 – Magnificent Original Items

Original Item: One Only. This Middle Eastern Jezail Musket has the finest Migulet lock we have even seen on one of these fairy tale long arms, or any other guns we have had. The jezail (sometimes Jezzail from the Arabic) is a simple, cost-efficient and often handmade muzzle-loading long arm commonly used in Middle East region in the past. This example has a stock of dark wood with large bone 8 inch long butt plate inlaid with decorations. It has an iron trigger guard and twelve engraved brass barrel bands to secure the 52″ barrel. The rear end of the barrel engraved and decorated with inlaid orange gem stone.

The magnificent migulet lock is 8″ in length and heavily inlaid with Silver engraved plaques. It has large proportions, the steel being beautifully chiseled and cut with large ringed top jaw screw. Showing heavy Armorer’s Mark below the hammer stop.

This is right out of “The Arabian Nights”! Just over 66 inches in overall length, this is truly a magnificent weapon. Slight wood loss to the edges of the very long fore stock. A true Classic, right out of the story books. All you need is a Camel.

History of the Miquelet Lock:
Miquelet lock is a modern term used by collectors and curators, largely in the English-speaking world, for a type of firing mechanism used in muskets and pistols. It is a distinctive form of snaplock, originally as a flint-against-steel ignition form, once prevalent in Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Balkans, North Africa, Ottoman Empire and throughout Spain’s colonies from the late 16th to the mid 19th centuries.

The term miquelet lock was not recorded until the 19th century, long after the appearance of the mechanism in the 16th century, and is of uncertain origin. One commonly held view is that it was coined by British troops in the Peninsular War to describe the style of musket used by the Miquelet (militia) that had been assigned to the Peninsular Army of the Duke of Wellington.
