Original Item: Only One Available. This is an amazing long barreled flintlock pistol, which started life in Austria, made using an early silver inlaid “Ottoman” barrel. It features all brass mounts which were probably gilt originally. Made for the Turkish / Ottoman market, it does not cater for a ramrod, which were carried separately around the neck in the 18th and 19th centuries. It does have a brass “faux” ramrod, which is part of the brass fittings around the stock.
The barrel measures 17 inches in length, with lovely early “Fleur-de-Lis” proof marks surrounding a maker’s “Touchmark”, which has writing in Ottoman Arabic. The bore is heavily rifled with 7 spiral grooves, and has a diameter of about .71″. Overall the pistol is a substantial 23 inches in length.
The stock wood has beautiful “Tiger Flame” grain to it, and looks to be possibly made from walnut. The lock works correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full. The pistol does show signs of use as well of age, but it really is a beautiful example.
In fine working order and ready to display!
