Original 19th Century U.S. Single Shot Rifled Underhammer .32cal Percussion Pistol with Hexagon Barrel – Circa 1850 Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very interesting U.S. single shot percussion pistol dating to about 1850, featuring a very nice “underhammer” style lock. It features a 5 1/4″ long heavy rifled hexagonal barrel, which actually has a really nice bore, so it does not look to have seen much use during its life. There are no markings whatsoever, typical of American firearms of the time, and this was most likely made by a private country gunmaker in a small shop. The barrel shows high quality manufacturing, definitely better made than the lock works, so we assume it was purchased from a supplier. Overall the design is somewhat primitive, but it definitely would have gotten the job done.

The receiver and grip are brass fitted, with a shield-shaped escutcheon on the rear of the grip, and two oval escutcheons on the side. The grip cap is brass, as are the side plates for the iron works, which are fully functional. The barrel has a blade front sight, and there is a simple notch sight on the rear of the frame.

A very interesting under hammer percussion pistol, ready to research and display!
