Original item: One of a Kind. The form of this “Hand Blunderbuss” is that of a shoulder fired weapon, but in fact these were carried in one hand. Fitted with a 9″ swamped iron barrel measuring 19″ overall, this is fitted with a saddle ring on the left side for attaching to a body sling allowing the seaman to climb aloft without fear of losing his pistol.
The Barbary Pirates became a real problem in the early 1800’s and it needed the new Nation of the United States to send a force to settle the problems in the 1820’s.
The wood stock is completely decorated all over with carvings and checkering. The unmarked Flintlock mechanism has a Military ring neck Cock of the era. All mounts, butt plate, trigger guard and side plate are of iron. The barrel appears to have a Makers mark on the top rear of the barrel.
In fully operating condition and very easy on the eye, ready to display!
