Original Item: Only One Available. The traditional weapon of the Irish for many centuries has been the solid wood club we all know as a “SHILLELAGH”. This example measures 23″ in overall length and is a real handful to wield.
The top is carved with a leaf/fern design and the wood overall is as hard as iron. These were typically made from Blackthorn or Oak wood. A man carrying one of these was a man to reckoned with.
From a Collection recently sold in Ireland this is about as Irish as GUINNESS.
Massive, in great matured condition and ready to display.
A shillelagh (/ʃɪˈleɪli/ shi-LAY-lee or /ʃɪˈleɪlə/ shi-LAY-lə; Irish: sail éille [ˈsalʲ ˈeːl̠ʲə], “thonged willow”) or blackthorn stick is a wooden walking stick and club or cudgel, typically made from a stout knotty stick with a large knob at the top. It is associated with Ireland and Irish folklore.
