Original Item: Only One Available. This is very special and very rare! These are truly interesting, and we have only had one similar example before! It is signed in scroll letters on the octagonal barrel:
Anton Baumann in München
This air rifle was made by the high art Gun Maker ANTON BAUMMAN of MUNICH, who worked at his height between 1798 and 1812 when he was Gun Maker to the Crown Prince of Bavaria. It is constructed along the lines of a Wheel lock Rifle with exotic multi grooved brass trigger guard and set trigger. Definitely an extravagantly designed and made item.
The barrel is accessed to the rear by pushing an iron catch directly in front of the trigger guard which allows the barrel to lower at the muzzle thus exposing the bore for inserting the pellet at the rear. The stock itself actually bends slightly when the chamber is open. The reservoir for the compressed air is to be found in the substantial wheel lock type butt stock mounted in brass, which shows the winding key post to build up the pressure. Winding key is unfortunately not present. The left butt is carved to provide a substantial cheek piece for the user.
The 33″ smoothbore barrel is octagonal on the exterior, with a bore of about 8mm, and the gun is 57″ overall. The small blade front sight is now absent, and so is the peep rear sight, but its mount with the securing screw is still present. All brass mounts with it’s full stock wood of exceptional quality. Lovely signature on barrel, the hunting style sight still in place on the barrel.
Comes complete with its original cleaning rod in place under the barrel. Made by a known Master Gunsmith with European Royal connections. Ready to research and display!
