Original 18th Century British Flintlock Fur Trade Pistol marked London – circa 1790 Original Items

Original Item: Only one available. This is a very nice British flintlock “trade” pistol, manufactured for use in the Fur Trade for trading with the Native American and First Nations trappers. As is standard it features an unsigned lock plate so local the Trading Post could customize accordingly if desired. The pistol measures 14 1/4 inches in overall length, with a 9 inch barrel marked LONDON on the top. Next to this are the British CROWN / P proof and CROWN / V “viewed” markings from the London Proof house.

The pistol features all brass mountings, including the trigger guard, butt cap, ramrod pipes, and side plate. There is a steel ramrod stored under the barrel, which is somewhat crudely made. The pistol features a nice walnut stuck, which does have some cracking to the front of the lock plate, but no major structural damage that we can see. Condition is very nice, with a lovely patina. The lock functions correctly, holding at half cock and firing at full.
