Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service worn condition genuine steel construction M34 Civic “Square Dip” Third Reich helmet, outfitted for German WW2 Schutzpolizei (Protection Police) issue. It features genuine double decals of Civic Police Reichsadler (National Eagle) and NSDAP swas (hook cross). These helmets were used by both the regular protection police, as well as the fire protection police. This example has the holes the mounting of the aluminum comb, but we see no evidence that one was ever installed.
The helmet comes with a leather liner attached with cork spacers, with all four attachment pins/rivets present. It does not have a size marked, but looks to be probably around a size 56 or smaller, as it only has 8 fingers. The leather does show wear, and the original top tie string is missing. Also, the rubber under padding is deteriorated, having become hard and brittle over the decades. The liner still has all 5 original tabs for attachment of a leather neck skirt, and the chin strap is present, but brittle and broken in several places.
The exterior of this German helmet retains much of the original black paint, with a lot of great period service wear, which has led to some oxidation, as shown. The NSDAP and civic eagle decals are both still present, with chipping and wear. They have a lovely yellowed color now, only possible due to the age of the helmet. The inside of the rear skirt has a clear “Lion” Logo over D.R.P. / THALE next to a large A, indicating production by the Eisenhüttenwerke, Thale factory.
Overall a great opportunity to get a very nice service used German WWII Civic Police helmet. Ready to display!
