Original Items: Only One Available. This is a real German WWII Kriegsmarine U-boat badge and this every example is seen in Forman’s Guide to Third Reich German Awards by Adrian Forman from James Bender Publishing.
Most U-boats hat their own distinctive insignia, sometimes more than one, and they would often have badges and pins made locally to put on their caps and uniforms. Many of these were not officially made, and it’s possible that some were even made on ships.
This example displays a “Norwegian Shoe” that has a sword or dirk going through it. The back is marked 800, indicating that it is .800 silver, a common alloy used during the WWII Period. We have unfortunately not been able to identify which U-boat or Flotilla this pin indicates, however a nearly identical badge is featured in Die Kriegsmarine: Uniforms and Traditions, written by John R. Angolia and published by R James Bender Publishing. Included is a scan from the book.
Definitely a great collector’s item with lots of research potential!
