Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a German WWII Kriegsmarine Navy M38 Overseas cap (Schiffchen), as worn NCO ranks. The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally “little ship” as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for Warrant and Petty officer NCO ranks.
The cap is constructed of a navy blue wool exterior, and features machine BeVo embroidered bullion eagle and tri-color cockade emblems sewn to the front. The interior is blue rayon, and is in very good condition. There are no markings that we can see, and it seems to be about a 56 cm / US 7 in size.
Condition of the cap is very good, showing light wear and staining from service on the exterior, which has removed some of the fuzzy ‘nap’ of the wool fabric. There is some minor fading and soiling, but no major condition issues. A very nice lightly worn Kriegsmarine NCO cap, ready to add to your collection!
