Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice service used condition some what rare WWII German Kriegsmarine (Navy) EM/NCO’s Steel Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß), complete with a Kriegsmarine marked leather belt. The Navy used the standard Wehrmacht pattern buckles, but instead of the Field Gray color used by the Heer, they usually painted them a gold color. However, this was deemed most likely not the best color to use in Küstenartillerie (Coastal artillery) emplacements, so in 1937 they began to issue these dark navy blue belt buckles instead.
The Buckle design features a smooth outer field with central, high relief, embossed Wehrmacht eagle with down swept wings to slightly domed center, encompassed by an oak-leaf cluster to bottom and bears the Wehrmacht motto GOTT MIT UNS, (God [is] with us), on the top. The oak-leaf cluster and script are on a ribbed background and encircled by an inner and outer simulated twisted rope border. This design is essentially identical to the heer army buckle. except for the color. The buckle is in good service worn condition, with about 60% of the navy blue paint retained on the front, and a lot more on the back, which allows us to definitively identify it as a Coastal Artillery buckle. There are no markings on the buckle, and the leather tab is unfortunately missing.
The leather belt is in very good used condition, and measures about 40 inches in overall length. It is stamped faintly on the buckle end with 100, for 100cm (39.3inches) and is an early example, with an aluminum maker marked end clip. The leather still retains the black finish on the exterior, with the interior brown. There are no maker markings that we can see, but they may have been worn away from use. The stitching on the leather tab was partly removed, and two more sets of holes added, as it looks to have been too big for the last wearer.
A very nice example of a rare German WWII Leather Belt, ready to add to your collection and display!
