Original German WWII Kriegsmarine Coastal Artillery EM/NCO Belt with 1937 dated Pebbled Aluminum Buckle Original Items

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition some what rare WWII 1937 dated German Kriegsmarine (Navy) EM/NCO’s Pebbled Aluminum Belt Buckle (Koppelschloß), complete with a Kriegsmarine marked leather belt. The Navy used the standard Wehrmacht pattern buckles, but instead of the Field Gray color used by the Heer, they usually painted them a gold color. However, this was deemed most likely not the best color to use in Küstenartillerie (Coastal artillery) emplacements, so in 1937 they began to issue these dark navy blue belt buckles instead.

The Buckle design features a pebbled outer field with central, high relief, embossed Wehrmacht eagle with down swept wings to slightly domed center, encompassed by an oak-leaf cluster to bottom and bears the Wehrmacht motto GOTT MIT UNS, (God [is] with us), on the top. The oak-leaf cluster and script are on a ribbed background and encircled by an inner and outer simulated twisted rope border. This is a very nice navy blue painted cast aluminum box buckle with a pebbled background. The buckle is in very good condition, but does show the expected wear from service. Most of the blue paint on the front is worn away, along with some of the detail on the eagle. The back of the buckle has more paint retained, and clearly shows that it is a blue painted buckle.

There is no maker information on the buckle that we can see, however there is a maker mark on the intact leather tab, which gives the manufacture date of 1937. The maker information itself was not stamped as deeply, and is illegible.

The leather belt is also in good condition, and has been cut down from the original length, and had the length adjustment tab removed. Instead, new holes were added directly into the body of the belt. It now measures about 37 inches in overall length. There is a bit of cracking on the inside, but nothing major. Most importantly, the inside is stamped with the correct Waffen Eagle / M marking, indicating Kriegmarine acceptance!
