Original Item: Only One Available. Recently purchased at a militaria show, is this genuine USGI bring back German WWII NSDAP Podium banner. The National Socialist German Workers’ Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, abbreviated NSDAP), commonly known in English as the NSDAP Party, was a political party in Germany between 1919 and 1945. It was known as the German Workers’ Party (DAP) before the name was changed in 1920.
The party’s last leader, Adolf AH, was appointed Chancellor of Germany by president Paul von Hindenburg in 1933. AH rapidly established a totalitarian regime known as the Third Reich.
The banner is single sided and of multi-piece construction, with a white canvas circle (one piece) dyed with a black swas (hook cross) stitched onto the red cotton background. It has the date JAN 15, 1945 written onto the white central circle’s upper left corner, which we assume is the date it it was captured. The type of pen used looks to be period correct, and displays similar age fading to other examples we have seen. Around this is a stitched on rayon square white border, and there is a white rayon fringe sewn onto the bottom. It measures 47″ x 56″, not counting the fringe on the bottom. There are still four out of five of the original brass hanger rings on the top of the banner, with the “right” side end ring missing.
The banner is offered in very good condition, looking to have seen moderate use during the NSDAP period. There is light staining and age toning throughout, especially on the white border, which also shows some wear and fraying in the fabric. The stitching is all secure, as far as we can tell.
A very nice dated example, ready to add to your collection!
